The Layout in Words

The Nature Center and admission window sit by the parking lot. The Farmyard Loop runs downhill from there past the wildlife exhibits and barns and back. From the farmyard, the Forest Discovery Trail loops into the woods behind the New England Wildlife exhibit, and the Beeline Trail heads through the woods to the Drumlin Loop over the hilltop and on to the Hayfield Loop. The crop fields are reached by the Boyce Field Loop, the Crops Discovery Trail and the Bobolink Trail Loop.

Every Trail, With Lengths

All lengths and notes are Mass Audubon's.

Ice Pond Trail (All Persons Trail): 350 feet

A universally accessible, five-foot-wide path with a smooth packed surface, sloping moderately up from the parking lot to the Nature Center. Tactile exhibits of frogs, turtles and birds, a guide rope, and braille stop signs.

Farmyard Loop Trail (All Persons Trail): 1/2 mile round trip

The main loop past the wildlife, farm animals and garden. Wide paved walkway and hard-packed dirt road, universally accessible except a rough side path at Bird Hill, with benches at the steepest sections. Mass Audubon's accessibility page puts the marked loop at 0.4 mile with 11 stops, about 30 minutes.

Forest Discovery Trail: 1/3 mile

An extension from the Farmyard Loop with roots, rocks and a short uphill. Home of the nature play area: a giant hawk's nest, a woodchuck tunnel and a mouse house to build. May be challenging for strollers and wheelchairs.

Beeline Trail: 1/4 mile

A short woodland path out to the crop fields, with a platform overlooking a small pond. Uneven ground; generally not suitable for most strollers or wheelchairs. Connects to the Drumlin Loop.

Drumlin Loop Trail: 1/2 mile

Moderate, uneven, with some uphill. Scenic view from the top of the drumlin; good for birding.

Hayfield Loop: 3/4 mile extension

Moderate, uneven ground through the wilder part of the sanctuary. Good for birding.

Boyce Field Loop: 1/4 mile

A rough, flat dirt road around the first crop field and the perennial flower and herb bed. Suitable for most strollers and wheelchairs.

Crops Discovery Trail: 3/4 mile

Overlaps the Boyce Field Loop. Flat dirt road with interpretive signs on Drumlin's sustainable growing practices. Suitable for most strollers and wheelchairs; good for birding.

Bobolink Trail Loop: 1/3 mile extension

A short detour from the Boyce Field Loop to the Overlook, with a view across the crop fields. Some uneven ground; may be challenging for strollers.
